The Parenting Coordinator (PC) is a rather new concept in family law. The PC provides Parenting Coordination services. The PC is often viewed as an individual who is familiar with family law, conflict resolution, mediation, family therapy, and child development.

The PC is a neutral individual who acts (within the parameters of a Court or divorce decree/stipulation) to resolve disagreements between parents as they pertain to the child(ren).

The Parenting Coordinator works with both parents to help them communicate (more) effectively, reduce or avoid conflict and resolve issues around child-related matters. PCs are used by the Court to help reduce the endless number of court appearances parents engage in to resolve minor issues. In some instances, the PC is granted binding power of arbitration which has the force of making the PC’s recommendation immediately binding upon the parties. In this way, the PC can mediate issues and resolve problems quickly without the parties appearing in court.
